Zetafax supports a wide range of hardware options ensuring there is a solution for every business, regardless of size and requirements. Options include analog and digital intelligent fax boards, most digital and analog V.34 modems and fax over IP (FoIP) software.
Intelligent fax boards are a great solution for companies that need to send high volumes of faxes at low cost. Zetafax supports fax boards from Cantata/Brooktrout and Dialogic/Eicon, many of which incorporate error correction to reduce call failure frequency and advanced compression techniques (MMR) to cut call times. These performance features, lacking on modems, result in fewer lost faxes and lower running costs, which usually pay for the initial hardware investment in a matter of months.
Intelligent fax boards are available in two types; analog and digital (BRI, PRI or T1).
For optimal results we recommend the Brooktrout TR1034 range of intelligent fax boards (manufactured by Cantata) due to their superior speed and error correction features. TR1034 boards are available in analog, BRI and PRI form and support from 2 to 30 channels depending on model.

If you are looking for a budget intelligent fax board then we recommend the Brooktrout TruFax range which we can supply with 1, 2 or 4 channels in analog or digital (BRI) form. Please note that TruFax boards do not include error correction and should only be used in situations where fax traffic is low.

Modems are useful for small businesses and users who wish to travel with a mobile fax solution on their laptop for out-of-office use. Modems are limited by lack of error correction and advanced compression techniques. As a result they are only suitable when fax throughput is low and faxing is not a critical component of the business. If several users require faxing facilities then an intelligent fax board is likely to be the more cost effective solution in the long-term.
Zetafax supports the following classes of modem: Class 1, Class 2, Class 1.0 and Class 2.0.

Equisys has tested the MultiTech® MultiModem® ZDX (model: MT5656ZDX) with Zetafax. A technote on installing and configuring this device can be found here.
Zetafax provides a highly scalable network faxing solution which can be fully integrated into an IP environment alongside voice and data communication. It’s simple to deploy (no changes to your PBX system are necessary) and supports a hybrid infrastructure. Most new PBX systems support FoIP via a standard Ethernet card and many traditional PBXs now have IP capability available as an upgrade option.
To enable FoIP with Zetafax either a Cantata/Brooktrout TR1034 intelligent fax board or IP call control software from Dialogic/Eicon (Diva Server SoftIP) is required.

1. Performance
Onboard processing of faxes means your computer CPU is not used, leaving it free to handle other tasks with no loss of performance. Modems require the computer processor to do the work.
2. Throughput
They transmit faxes up to 3 times faster than a modem, which means a saving of 7p for every 4-page fax sent.
3. Compatibility
IFBs have superior interoperability with phone systems due to mature firmware. This results in fewer failed faxes and retries, cutting phone bills.
4. Capacity
Modems only connect to one phone line, meaning you can't send and receive faxes at the same time. IFBs can connect to multiple lines for multitasking.
5. Security
IFBs use T.30 and T.38 protocols which are more secure than the V.90 protocol used by modems. Your data and IT systems remain protected.
